We operate one of the world’s largest energy delivery
systems. Founded in 1823 as the New York Gas Light company, our electric, gas,
and steam service now provides energy for the 10 million people who live in New
York City and Westchester County.
We’re constantly looking toward the future and exploring
ways to innovate and take advantage of developing technology. But, more than
anything, we’re listening to you and working hard to give you cleaner, more
efficient energy choices, and more control over when and how you use your
power.
Standards of
Business Conduct
Our standards
demonstrate our commitment to integrity and guide us in how we do our work
How We
Source Our Energy
We get our
energy from all over the country and are constantly looking for ways to make
our production more sustainable.
Building a Sustainable Future
First learn
about our community and customers, then understand our focus on safety, the
environment, and operational excellence.
Employee Safety
Since 2009, our utilities Con Edison and Orange &
Rockland (O&R) have reduced recordable injuries and illnesses by 60% and
69%, respectively.
Reducing GHG Emissions
We reduced our carbon footprint (carbon dioxide, methane,
and sulfur hexafluoride) by 49% since 2005 – equal to taking more than 500,000
cars off the road.
Core System Upgrades
We’re on pace to install 5.3 million smart meters across
our territory by 2022. They’ll help reduce consumption and power generation
emissions – and put unprecedented control in the hands of our customers.
Operational Excellence
For our support of our Veterans, the company received
U.S. Veterans Magazine’s Seven Seas Award, the Pro Patria Award from the New
York Chapter of the Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve, and 2018 Best
for Vets—Top 100 Employers from Military Times.
System Resiliency
We’ve committed to spending some $100 million to
strengthen our overhead system in Westchester County, along with removing and
cutting back trees that pose a risk during storms.
R&D/Innovation
Developed and began to install a first-of-its-kind,
battery-powered natural gas detector that is integrated with the smart meter
communications network.
Customer & Community
Through the Con Edison and O&R energy efficiency
programs, last year customers helped us avoid the release of nearly 300,000
tons of greenhouse gasses, equivalent to taking 88,000 cars off the road.
Renewables
In 2018, acquired solar and wind projects worth $2.1
billion, through our Clean Energy Businesses, bringing our total renewable
portfolio to 2,600 megawatts, making us the second largest solar producer in
North America.
The Next Generation
We’re exposing college students to the possibility of a
future environment and energy career through our Con Edison Scholars Network, a
community of Con Edison STEM Scholarship recipients from colleges and
universities in our service area.
Sustainability Journey
Con Edison has been committed to sustainability for more
than two decades – we have learned from our challenges and are proud of our
successes. We recognize that sustainability is a journey, and while we have
achieved much, we continue to look for ways to improve and meet the needs of
our stakeholders.
Building Sustainable Communities and a Cleaner Energy
Future
Now one of the largest solar producers in North America,
Con Edison is leading the way toward a cleaner energy future. We’re developing
clean heating technologies as an alternative to fossil fuels, along with
modernizing the grid to make it easier for customers to integrate renewable
energy sources. As a next generation energy company, Con Edison is supporting a
host of schools and community programs that are helping to prepare a whole new
generation for green careers.
Additional Highlights:
Acquired solar
and wind projects worth $2.1 billion, through our Clean Energy Businesses,
making us the second largest solar producer in North America. The acquisitions
doubled the amount of green power we own, which will avoid 5.4 million metric
tons of carbon emissions annually – equal to removing 1.2 million vehicles from
the roads
We’ve placed a
temporary moratorium on new gas projects in most of Westchester, where natural
gas constraints are severe. To help fill the need, we’re expanding energy efficiency
and demand management programs to natural gas customers and seeking smart
solutions, such as renewable natural gas and geothermal projects, as an
alternative to fossil fuels. We continue to work toward additional gas
infrastructure projects that can meet federal and state requirements
Providing low-
and moderate-income customers access to the benefits and savings of clean
energy by installing solar panels atop New York Housing Authority buildings
Supporting the
state’s efforts to develop large-scale renewable generation, including offshore
wind, while advocating for utility development and ownership, which would allow
customers to reap the benefits and savings of renewable energy
We’re
introducing college students to the possibility of future environment and
energy careers through our Con Edison Scholars Network. It’s a community of Con
Edison STEM Scholarship recipients from colleges and universities in our
service area. Students are paired with employees who are alumni from their
schools for mentorship. Networking and professional development helps foster
their growth and excitement for science, technology, engineering and math
careers

PSEG is committed to our customers, shareholders,
employees and communities where we do business. We invest in the economy,
environment and infrastructure to make the states where we operate, better
places to live and work.
We Focus our Energy Today to Meet Tomorrow’s Needs
Our power has long been instrumental in making life
better for our customers. Today, citizenship at PSEG means continuing to
deliver on that vital public service – and more – by taking a stronger interest
in the needs of our customers, communities, shareholders and employees.
We are fortunate to have an outstanding workforce of
diverse and highly skilled people who move us forward while giving back of
their own time and support to the causes that matter most to them. Through our
Foundation giving, we support and partner with those organizations that are
powering a brighter future for the places we do business.
PSEG has 13,000 employees across multiple states
representing varied backgrounds and expertise. But could you conceptualize what
a snapshot of PSEG would look like as just 100 people? That’s just what the
PSEG Foundation set out to do when it partnered with the 100 People Foundation.
Using the 100 People Foundation philosophy and
methodology, we set out to meet the 100 people who could best represent our
company. The result was a diverse group
of employees who helped create a community that represents PSEG by job type and
companywide statistics. Employees from varied positions, levels and tenure were
nominated by their peers as the people they most admire.
Some of the employees chosen to help represent PSEG as
100 people served in the military, where they learned about great teamwork, or
are the third generation of their family to work for PSEG. More than one
nominee was the first member of their family to attend college. It is this diverse culture that makes us who
we are: a great place to work and a committed member of the communities we
serve.
As part of the 100 People Foundation’s larger global
initiative, our project will be used to teach students about what an energy
company looks like and where energy comes from.
PSEG’s vision is to be increasingly recognized as “a
leader for People providing Safe, Reliable, Economic and Green Energy.” People
come first – and so does their health and safety.
“Our Commitment to Health and Safety” statement unites
PSEG employees, unions and company leaders in achieving an accident-free
environment where no one gets hurt.
Union-management Health & Safety Councils are the
backbone of the PSEG Health and Safety System. Today, employee-led councils at
the local, business and company levels dedicate their time, effort and
expertise to achieving a culture built on:
Trust – We
respect and trust each other’s opinions and decisions and follow through on all
health and safety concerns.
Care – We approach each day with the
determination to care for ourselves, co-workers, contractors and the
communities we serve.
Knowledge – We
have the knowledge and skills to be healthy and safe.
Communication –
We communicate in a clear, open and honest manner.
At PSEG, we believe that safety is a way of life both on
and off the job. If there is one message we would like our visitors to
remember, it is that PSEG is fully committed to protecting the health and
safety of our employees, contractors and the communities we serve. We believe
that operational excellence – with safety first - is the key to long-term
success.
Every day, 2.5 million customers in New Jersey count on
the people of PSE&G to power their daily lives. And they expect their
electricity and gas to be there on clear days and in the most severe weather.
As New Jersey’s largest electric and gas utility, PSE&G is consistently
ranked as the most reliable electric and gas utility in the region. Today, the
company is investing billions of dollars to upgrade and modernize the pipes,
wires and technology to meet changing customer expectations. The company’s
transmission hardening, Energy Strong and Gas System Modernization programs are
making a reliable system even stronger.
PSEG brings that same dedication to reliability to our
PSEG Long Island customers and to those who depend on PSEG's power generation.
Making Energy Affordable
Economic leadership means providing energy at a fair,
reasonable price. We work diligently to find economical ways to provide the
energy our New Jersey and Long Island customers need at the most affordable
cost.
Since 2009, PSE&G customers’ electric bills have
remained flat, while natural gas bills have declined more than 50 percent. In
addition, PSE&G has invested more than $400 million in energy efficiency
programs to help our customers find new ways to further reduce their bills.
PSE&G’s residential gas customers have reaped the
benefits of plentiful natural gas supplies with lower gas prices. In 2016, PSE&G
reduced its residential gas rates for the seventh consecutive year. Since 2009,
we have reduced residential customers’ bills by 51 percent, saving the typical
customer more than $850 a year. In addition, PSE&G has issued bill credits
totaling $775 million, or approximately $580 per typical customer.
PSE&G’s energy efficiency programs have helped
customers save more than 180 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, which is
enough to power 25,000 homes for a year and 5 million therms of natural gas,
which is enough to supply 5,000 homes for a year.
From Home Energy Assessments to rebates, PSEG Long Island
is helping PSEG's Long Island customers lower bills and save energy.
