MIAMI – American Airlines applauds the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) actions to increase staffing at Miami International Airport (MIA).
“The initiatives outlined by DHS Deputy Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas will have a positive impact on international passengers traveling through Miami, the nation’s second-largest international gateway with the highest percentage of arriving international customers,” said Robert Isom, American’s chief operating officer. DHS and CBP are to be commended for their leadership in this effort.”
“We have long advocated for enhancements to staffing in Miami, the nation’s premier gateway to the Caribbean and Latin America,” added Isom. “We look forward to continued positive collaboration with DHS and CBP to further address delays in Miami and other U.S. gateways. We also thank Senators Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio as well as Florida’s congressional delegation, including Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Mario Diaz-Balart, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Joe Garcia and Frederica Wilson, for their support of this important issue.”
In addition to an increase of 60 officers previously announced, CBP will augment staffing by adding up to 15 other officers at MIA. CBP will also support the officer overtime program during peak periods and work with American to promote the increased use of Automated Passport Control kiosks and Global Entry.
American operates approximately 330 daily flights at MIA, including more than 150 flights to 71 international destinations. American will continue to increase its international presence in Miami with new, recently announced service to Cap-Haitien, Haiti, and Campinas, Brazil, starting this fall.
“As we celebrate 25 years of the Miami Hub we are pleased to be able to improve the travel experience for our customers,” said Marilyn DeVoe, American’s vice president – Miami. “Expedited processing in Miami will help business and leisure travelers as well as everyone who works in South Florida’s travel and tourism industry. This development is great news for American and our community.”
