BARCELONA, Spain – At Mobile World Congress 2014, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a leading provider of mobile broadband network solutions, and Akamai Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of cloud services for delivering, optimizing and securing online content and business applications, will demonstrate advanced content delivery technologies for use in mobile networks. The ”proof of concept” demonstration is intended to highlight expected benefits to both end-users and mobile operators including improved user experience, faster mobile web access and more efficient delivery of web page contents over mobile networks.

Today’s mobile web content has become more complicated and heavier due to the inclusion of higher resolution images and videos. A rapid increase in media traffic demand from smart devices carries an associated cost of network congestion, which leads to unforeseen bottlenecks and lower quality of service to end-users. In this challenging environment, mobile operators are demanding better ways to deliver content over their networks in order to improve user experience.

To cater to the needs of mobile operators, at this year’s congress, Samsung will perform a demonstration of advanced content delivery solutions on its mobile network. Developed in coordination with Akamai, the demonstration will highlight how mobile content delivery technology can result in significant improvement in web page loading time, even in a heavily congested network environment.

Samsung’s demonstration will also highlight mobile traffic prioritization. This approach allows mobile operators to prioritize delivery of the premium contents over their network. For example mobile operators can serve faster and more stable web page access to subscribers that use critical services like mobile banking or e-commerce.

Additionally, combining the mobile traffic prioritization technology with Samsung’s unique mobile caching solution called Smart CacheTM, further enhancement can be made in end-user service quality by reducing the usage of network bandwidth and minimizing network latency by up to 100%. This will also allow mobile service providers the ability to offer premium services to content providers and an SLA (Service Level Agreement) for their services.

“Mobile operators are witnessing rapid growth in mobile web activities such as mobile banking and e-commerce. Mobile content delivery solutions and traffic prioritization over the mobile network will develop into a key differentiator for mobile operators in smart device era.” said Jungah Choi, Senior Vice President and Head of System Innovation Lab at Networks Business, Samsung Electronics. “Recently, Samsung is focusing on developing innovative solutions for mobile content delivery such as Smart CacheTM and mobile delivery acceleration technologies. Our solutions will not only provide superior mobile user experience by minimizing network latency, but will also open up possibilities for a variety of new business opportunities between the mobile operators and the content providers.”
